As different Thailands tourist islands such as Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Chang may be, they all have one thing in common: They are all so big that you will never have this typical "island feeling", as it is typicaly for the Maledives for example. But now you can get such an island feeling, by making an Island Hopping Tour over some of Thailands smaller Isands in the south. This Islands usually have only one or two resorts on them and no nightlife or shopping. A company called "Tiger Line Travel Company" now offers a daily Express Boat Service with one boat going from Koh Lanta over Koh Ngai, Koh Mook, Trang (Hat Yao Pier), Koh Lippe all the way down to Langkawi in Malaysia. Another boat travels the same route back at the same time. At all stations a stopover of about half an hour is scheduled but you may leave the boat and stay on any of this islands for a night or two. Since there ist also a boat service between Ao Nang and Koh Lanta, you can even start the tour in Ao Nang but a stop over in Koh Lanta in necessary due to no direct connection. If you want to go all the way to Langkawi in only one day, you can start in Ao Nang by Mini Bus to Trang and enter the Boat to Langkawi there. From Ao Nang to Langkawi (via Trang) the price is 1850,- Baht (Promotion) per person - One Way! Further details are available on the website of Tiger Line Travel. |

A few days ago, the very first Gold Shop has opened in Ao Nang. It's a little up the hill and so maybe not available vor the Walk In Tourist but the Thais have discovered it already and quite a few people coud be seen as customers. Jewelry from Thai Gold is very popular for Thai People and there again especially with the ladies of the "horizontal industry". Gold is a status symbol and when you wear it it's also a sign of creditworthiness as it shows everybody that you have money. For the ladies from the red light district, it is also a sign of "how much you love me" and now, the girls don't need to carry their Farangs all the way to Krabi Town, they can buy their "sign of love" right in Ao Nang. Thai Gold is a little more yellow than the Gold we know from Europe. The purity level of Thai gold is 95 to 96.5%, which corresponds to about 23 carats. In Thailand however, the weight unit in "Baht" is crucial (1 baht = 15.16 grams) and the gold prices in the shops are always for 1 ""weight" Baht. A gold chain, for example, can have 1 or 2 Baht. That has nothing to do with the Thai currency "Baht". |

New Outlet Mall in Krabi Town Just before Christmas we would like tell you about another ongoing construction work, but this time wthout any influence on the tourism in Ao Nang. On the road leading to the Airport in Krabi and just between The Lotus and Big C Supermalls a new Outlet Mall is beeing build. Some well known companies like Puma, Addidas, Rip Curl, to just name a few have some of their articles produced in Thailand and when ever ther is some over production or outdated goods, it will be sold in this Outlet Malls for a very reasonable price. Considering the construction, the mall could be open by the end of January. |

Ao Nang was not in Thailand if it was not always beeing changed and facelifted. The former Krabi Sea View Resort was closed down on June, 1st, 2007 due to a change of the owner. Until now, nowbody really knew exactly whats going to be there and what the new owner will build on it's place. These days now they started to break down all the resort buildings, including The Roof Restaurant and Safety Stop Bar, which was build over the small lake in the center of the resort. A sighn came up, showing what the new place is going to be look like: Another three or four story building with shops at street level and hotel rooms above. So another idylic peace of Ao Nang is to be flushed away... Click here for more pictures

New Golf Course in Krabi Once again, we have to talk about some construction going on: Krabi get's a new Golf Course! This time however, not directly in Ao Nang but only about 15 km away at Klong Muang Beach. The new to be Golf Course is right beside the also newly build Sofitel Resort and belongs also to the resort. Who ever has a "Handicap" can play there but we were not able to get the the Range Fee yet. However,it's still some time to go before the official opening. With this 2nd Golf Course in the region, Krabi takes another step to stand by as an international recognized tourist destination in Thailand. |
