One of the passenger ferries that cruise every day between Phuket and the Phi Phi Islands sank today near the famous Maya Bay after a fire broke out in the engine room. The Krabi Marine Police dispatched several speedboats that rushed to the scene to rescue the 100+ passengers. Nobody was reported hurt or injured in the incident. Passengers were first taken to the main island Phi Phi Don and later offered free transport back to Phuket if they desired. The Marine Police will likely try to raise and remove the sunken vessel. |

We wish all our readers a Happy Eastern Holidays and.... ...a Happy New Year. Well, almost. The Eastern Holiday is not much celebrated in Thailand, but only a few days later on April, 13th, 2007 Thailand celebrates it's Songkran Festival, also known as Thailands New Year. There will be a lot of water splashing all over the country and tourists who are in Ao Nang or Thailand for the first time should be advised to leave expensive and sensetive equipment like cameras, mobile phones etc. for safety in the hotel room. Also in a few days, on April, 9th, 2007 the Marine Conservation Centre in Ao Nam Mao, only a few Kilometres from Ao Nang, will open it's doors for the first time after a complet renovation. That's why we don't have a picture of an Easter Egg but of that nice Clown Fish, which now marks the entrance of the Marine Conservation Centre, so that you can't miss it. Tourists are in Ao Nang now, should not miss it. (please also see our article on page 2 for more infos). |

Two hotels from Krabi area, the Andaman Holiday Resort in Klong Muang and the Krabi Sea View Resort in Ao Nang recently announced that they will close down on May 31th, 2007, by the end of this season. While the AHR said that the reopening will be in about two years, the reopening of the Krabi Sea View Resort is still unknown. Considering the time of closing, we can guess that both hotels will be rebuild from scratch. Also effected from the closing will be the facilities connected to the Sea View Resort: The Roof Restaurant, The Safety Stop Bar and Ao Nang Divers. The Dive Center of Ao Nang Divers however, will reopen on October 1st, 2007 at a new location which is still unknown but will be announced early enough on their homepage. Read their offficial statement here: |

Featuring Ernie Halter- Los Angeles Singer/Songwriter who is currently on tour promoting his new CD "Congress Hotel". Ernie came to Ao Nang in 2003 and stopped by the Encore Cafe where he watched Georgia the famous blues singer from Bangkok sing with the Encore Band. He kept in touch with me and after the tsunami said he would do something to help the children. So he has taken time from his current tour and volunteered to pay his way and play for free to raise money for the Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation [who sponsor children orphaned by the disaster. Ernie plays folk acoustic guitar and sings and his music has a soul/bluesy tinge, sometimes described as a mix of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and....Ernie. Ernie has had appearances on David Letterman, the Tonight Show, Good Morning America and more, and now .....Encore Cafe!" |
