No More Motor Bikes on the Beach in Ao Nang Starting now, there should be no more motorbikes on the beach in Ao Nang beween the Last Fisherman Bar and the Last Cafe. The big gate, connecting the big free parking area behind the massage stands, is closed from now on and people with cars and motor bikes now have to walk the last 100 metres to the beach. Until now, some lazy drivers didn't stop at the gate and drove between the massage stands all the way to the Last Cafe, disturbing touristes on the beach front. However, the landowner, who owns the whole lot between Last Fisherman Bar and the Big Mountain in Ao Nang, has decided to keep the gate closed and people have to leave their motor bike behind on the big parking lot behing the massages and a small Klong (river). |

Ao Nang gets it's very first Condominium. 78 Units in one 8 storey condo block are to be build in Ao Nang area. The exact location is a bit in the backyard from Ao Nang, behind Nopparatthara Beach and near to the St Agnes Church and the village of Klong Heng. The Units will be available for foreigners ranging from 25,000,- € for a 38m² flat up to 77,000,- € for some 88 m² penthouse on the rooftop. Construction will start in May 2008 and will last for about 19 month, so that the handover to the new owners will be in December 2009. All rooms in the Condo will have it's own aircon and the project should also have Swimming Pool, Jacuzzi, Spa, shops, security guard and one parking space per unit. The building permit is issued under the new Ministerial Regulation No. 9.(B.E. 2453), issued under the Condominium Act B.E. 2522 so that even more than the usual 49% of the units may be sold to foreigners. |

Tourist Police in Ao Nang Due to the ever-increasing number of hotels and thereby also increasing numbers of tourists in Ao Nang, the building of the "Tourist Police" in Ao Nang is to extended. The police station is already equipped with 4 police cars and, as it looks like, they need even more room for more staff. The Tourist Police works closely together with the TAT (Thailand Tourist Authority), and was set up for the needs of tourists. They can be reached countrywide under the number 1155, in Bangkok however, you must dial 1699. The tourist police in Ao Nang is located directly behind the diversion to the Pakasai or Ao Nang Village Hotel or just a hunderd meters behind the main entrance to the Krabi Resort, on the other side of the road. The police box of the "normal" Thai Police is located exactly at the other end of the beach, just above the Phra Nang Inn Hotels. |

Here we go! Ao Nang will get his own Night Market. What works in other tourist places in Thailand, that should also work in Ao Nang. In fact, the night markets in places like Hua Hin and Koh Samui are tourist magnets and draw every evening after sunset hundreds of tourists, for eating, drinking and shopping. In Ao Nang, the night market will be further up in the village, about 800 meters from the beach, on the side of the Phra Nang Inn Hotel and opposite of the Phra Nang Hotel. Local business people had tried to set up some sort of a Night Plaza on that place a few years ago, but most of the units, which are located a little lower than the road, were mostly empty, and it turned out to be another empty business complex. When the construction work is completed, most of the food stands, T-Shirt and other mobile shops will have to move or might even want to move there due to lower prices for the rent. That will also include all the food stands, which are now on the large square opposite the Krabi Resort, in front of the former Outlet Mall. This place again will be turned into hotel rooms, just like the Timber House right next to it. The advantage of the new Night Market could be a better business for restaurants and other businesses on the other side of the beach and up the road but for sure for the motorbike taxis which will have to bring the people to this new location. We estimate that the new Ao Nang Night Market will be ready by the begin of the next season. |

The new Orchid Bungalows in Ao Nang In May last year, we had reported here about the Orchid Bungalows in Ao Nang, which at that time were just beeing demolished to make room for a new resort. The result is a new hotel resort with 53 rooms in one building and another13 bungalows, each with its own entrance to the swimming pool! From the hotel rooms guests will have a very nice view over the resort itself with the swimming pool and on the large rocky mountain in the background of Ao Nang. There is certainly still a few weeks to go until everything is finished and the resort can reopen but can already see what it's going to be. Not bad al all is the working speed, they have demolished and set up the new resort in less than a year. Also open by now is the new Outlet Mall just outside of Krabi town on the road to the airport. In a sales area of the size of a football field, there are all kinds of discounted branded clothes, fishing and camping equipment and much more. Soon to be opened will also be the Big C Super Mall in the same area. Krabi will turn by then into a shopping paradise, just like Phuket or Pattaya. |
